The paper considers a masterpiece of the chamber vocal heritage of Anton Rubinstein — “Twelve Persian Love Songs” based on the poems of the Azerbaijani poet of the XIX century — Mirza Shafi Vazeh. The cycle represents a vivid example of embodiment of the exotic Eastern motifs in Russian music. The paper highlights the history of the cycle creation, peculiarities of its structure, melodicism, and the tonal plan. The author analyzes artistic features of every song, touches upon performing traditions of the “Twelve Persian Love Songs” in the XX–XXI centuries.
