National Features of He Luting’s Piano Compositions

The role of He Luting as the founder of the Chinese composition school is exceptional. Studying He Luting’s piano music, we can reveal a natural interpenetration of the traditional Chinese harmony, melody, texture, and methods of formal organization of the technical resources common for the Western tradition. Analyzing these integration properties and using the example of Luting’s piano works “The Shepherd Boy Playing the Pipe” and “Lullaby”, we can understand the foundations of the national style and defi ne the very concept of the “Chinese style”.
