In the XXI century, the world musical culture is still discovering Chinese choral art. Qu Xixian is an outstanding Chinese female composer whose work has absorbed the best national features of Chinese vocal-choral music. Her creative method is based on Western musical-theoretical principles of composition; however, the fi gurative and artistic sphere is fi lled exclusively with national traditions. One of her most popular and frequently performed pieces — the arrangement of the folk song “Pastoral” – is the hallmark of the contemporary Chinese choral music.
