The article presents the results of a study on the differences among people of different
generations, namely Generation X and millennials, with respect to a number of social
perception indicators. The authors analyse the data of the diagnostics of individual social
and perceptual attitudes and xenophobiс tendencies, which are evaluated in accordance
with the scores of “intolerance”, “social pessimism” and “conventional coercion”. The
results of the study will supplement the information on psychological characteristics
of the members of different age categories, which is represented in the theory of
generations. Some differences were found in the ratio of positive and negative social and
perceptual attitudes, as well as differences in the indexes of xenophobic attitudes between Generation X and millennials. The data obtained in the course of the study are largely in conformity with the description of chronological cycles and associated characteristics of people born in certain time periods, known as the theory of generations; they also reflect the patterns and characteristics of lifespan development.
