The article is devoted to the study of possible psychological prerequisites for
experiencing a sense of presence by users of information and communication
technologies (for example, players of online games and users of social networks).
The author formulated the following research hypothesis: the experience of a sense of
presence by users of information and communication technologies would be associated
with the characteristics of the psychological boundary and cognitive control of an
individual. To check it, the author used blank tests as well as hardware methods aimed
at measuring the characteristics of cognitive control. The total sample of the study
consisted of 225 respondents. As a result, the author obtained data on the specificity of
correlations of the parameters of cognitive control and psychological boundaries with
the peculiarities of experiencing a sense of presence in each of the groups of users of
information and communication technologies.
Keywords: information and communication technology, social media users, online
game players, sense of presence, psychological boundary, cognitive control.
