This paper discusses the correlation between two practices, namely the ritualistic act of
sacrifice and the dialectical method of thought. In essence, they are united through the
relationship between the One and the Many. Therefore, these practices are understood
as the same action which is expressed in different ways. In the former case, the living
things, first of all the sacrificer himself, serve as a sacrifice. In the latter case, in dialectics, logical categories are sacri찾ced. Thus, a sacrifice is considered as a mechanism in which the transition of the Universal into the Unique and vice versa is realised, which reveals their unity and difference.
Key words: sacrifice, dialectics, the One and the Many, the Universal and the Unique,
possibility and actuality, Hegel.
