The paper shows the significance of the value basis of society, which undergoes dynamics in terms of the significance and substantive content of values, which are determined by the historical and cultural stage of its development. It is noted that the value construct of the generation groups is represented by external and internal values. The author finds great significance of external values over internal ones, and also reveals a conflict between the significance and realisation of values by different generation groups. It is important to understand how sustainable the value field of generations is in the study of processes of social development, and therefore it is necessary to analyse the ongoing value transformations in the structure of values of different generation groups.
