Chinese painting is a form of painting that diverged into an
independent system in the world of art. Chinese painting has
a number of features that distinguish it from other types of fi ne
art. It is characterised by special charm and spiritual content of
works. Chinese paintings of the 18th century can be divided into
two groups: landscapes (shan shui) and paintings with fl owers
and birds (hua niao). Currently, studies revealing the inner meaning
of Chinese hua niao paintings of the 18th century are quite
rare. The paper studies the objective meaning of Chinese birdand-
fl ower hua niao paintings of the 18th century based on the
available scientifi c research results and the author’s own practice.
Keywords: hua niao painting of the 18th century, inner meaning, actual situation of
the genre’s development, variety of genre forms, modern hua niao painting, development
and infl uence of hua niao.
