The article is devoted to understanding and attitude of modern students to the elite and 
elite education as social phenomena. On the basis of the conducted sociological research, the authors identify key aspects of the perception of the elite and elite education and give a number of recommendations for the formation of a positive attitude to these phenomena as a basis for moving towards a meritocratic society.
