The article reviews the theoretical issues of the metaphorization pro-
cess as one of the types of lexico-semantic way of forming technical
terms. The classifi cation of oil and gas metaphorical terms is pre-
sented. The analysis of terminological units, taken from lexical entries
of the “English-Russian Dictionary of Metaphorical Terms of the Oil
and Gas Industry” by A. A. Efremov and from the texts from scientifi c
oil and gas journals has displayed that metaphorical transfer is a
productive way of replenishment of the vocabulary of this terminology
in the Russian language, demonstrating the refl ection of the anthropo-
centric approach at the terminological level.
