The paper covers the civilization theory of the English scientist, theolo-
gian and historian Isaac Newton regarding the question of the Jewish
scattering, future restoration of the state of Israel, and the process of
“universal apostasy”, a historical course of events that is described in
the Bible, and which Newton interpreted as the apostasy of the Roman
Catholic Church from the true Christian faith. Investigating a number
of unpublished Newton’s archival manuscripts, the author draws a
conclusion that Newton considered the course of the Jewish captivity
which had begun in 70 AD with the destruction of Jerusalem by the
Romans, and the course of the “apostasy” of the Catholic Church as
synchronous historical processes, which, however, would end at slightly
different times.
