Fine art and design evolved in the West over time, and under the
infl uence of the environment, there emerged a lot of new design con-
cepts and trends. Generally, in the period of the industrial revolution
and commercialization processes, art was affected by such design
styles as art Nouveau and art Deco. The present paper provides
defi nition of these styles, considers the history of their origin and
development, and reveals their value for the modern art trends and
directions. This paper is expected to contribute to the study of evolv-
ing the styles and trends of the modern applied art.
