The article presents the quantitative and emotive analysis of a belles-lettres work. This analysis is the most comprehensive among the existing kinds of text analysis and can be considered universal. Through the example of M. Zoshchenko’s story “Poverty” the author reveals and analyses emotives and emothemes of the planes of content and expression. The result of the analysis showed that there are more emothemes of the plane of expression than those of the plane of content in belles-lettres text.
