The article explores the structure and semantics of the “Sky” lexical
field in the prose series of “The Shadow of a Bird” by Ivan Alekseyevich
Bunin. The novelty of the study lies in the fact that the lexical-semantic
field of “Sky” has a fairly clear structure which includes a core, a
perinuclear part and two peripherals. It is proved that the conceptual
component of the artistic concept of «Sky» expands due to the symbolic
component. The author proposes a classification, the field of «Sky» correlates with the elements of two peripheries: the first periphery of the
text field is created with the help of expressive means, while the second
periphery forms elements of occasional microfields, the important property of which is the emotional-evaluative potential. Particular attention
is paid to semantemes which are united by the core and periphery, the
most important among which are vividness, dynamics, spatial characteristics, and miracle.
