This article analyzes the kinship terminology as a linguistic phenomenon. Kinship system, being one of the social institutions, is used as a source of information about the society and its institutions, and the kinship terminology is used as a language tool that
captures particular kinship system caused by certain social conditions. In order to clarify the features of modern kinship system of the Chinese and Russian people, it is necessary to take into account some of the social factors that give rise to such features.
This study is useful for analysis of spoken and written communication, compilation of dictionaries, as well as for the teaching of the Russian language.
