Potential Strength of the Anti-Soviet Groups in Romania in Assessment by US State Department, 1944-1953

 The article examines the attitude of the US State Department towards the possibility of collaboration with anti-Soviet groups in Romania. The authors analyze the assessments about the Romanian opposition prevailing in the State Department, and articulated by US diplomats in Bucharest and Moscow. The article defi nes the basic principles and priorities of the United States policy toward Romania in 1944–1953 and examines the major factors which infl uenced the US policy towards this country.
