The paper deals with the impact of f. T. Vischer’s post-hegelian aesthetics and
particularly his idea of aesthetic empathy upon aby warburg’s theory of symbol. The
suggested comparison distinguishes the main aspects of both scholars’ symbolic theories and reveals the similarities and differences between their concepts.
