Operation Frühlingserwachen (“Spring Awakening”) (6–15 March 1945) was the last major offensive of the Nazi Axis forces in World War II. Soviet and allied (Bulgarian and Yugoslav) troops in the region of Lake Balaton enjoyed superiority in manpower and parity in artillery and aircraft over the enemy, but had twice less number of armored vehicles. The insignificant impact of the German offensive demonstrated much
higher level of combat skills of the Red Army at the final stage of the war
