TIMBRE AS AN INVARIANT BOUNDARY OF MUSIC CONTENT

A. I. Leskov
Price: 50 руб.
Works of many researchers analyse the mechanisms of perception of musical sense.
In particular, scientists repeatedly stated the need to identify conventional units in
a musical message. In this study, the author defines timbre as a component of the
musical language, which forms an invariant border in the interpretation of musical
sense. Timbre is seen as an initiator of intersensory associations – synesthesias filling
individual elements of the musical language with meaning. Thus, timbre is defined as a
boundary forming the foundation of the musical meaning interpretation. The research
at the intersection of traditional musicology, semiotics and social psychology is noted
for originality and novelty.
Key words: timbre, synesthesia, perception, interpretation, invariant border of
meaning.
