The paper describes an attempt to consider the geometrical ornament of the indigenous peoples in Kamchatka and Chukotka as a sign system and fundamental information source. Based on the generalised facts of various studies in ornamentology, archaeology and comparative mythology, the author draws a conclusion that the ornament of these peoples represents the condensed information about the historical past of Kamchatka aborigines and their interrelation with other peoples during many centuries over the territory from Western Siberia to Northwest America. Studying the geometrical ornament as a sign system would help to fill up the lacunas in modern ornamentology of Kamchatka and Chukotka and enrich the knowledge on the theory and history of art of these peoples.
