The article is dedicated to the problem of translating the concept “God” in the Japanese
translation of the Book of Psalms and is based on the texts of two modern translations
of the Bible into Japanese. The attention is mainly drawn to the semantic contents of
the concept, its usage context and interpretation in the original, and also the adequacy
of its interpretation by means of the Japanese language. The main research object is the influence of the religion-culture discourse on the language, tropes and idioms.
