The article focuses on certain issues of the Kassite era of ancient Mesopotamia (1531–1155 B.C.) faced by Russian and international specialists in the Ancient History of the Near East. Rule of the Kassite dynasty in South Mesopotamia is still barely researched despite a considerable progress of Assyriology in the 20th — early 21st centuries. Insuffi cient research in this area is primarily caused by the nature of sources available from this period. Despite a large number of the Kassite cuneiform artefacts, only a small portion of them have been published to date. The author offers directions and perspectives of studying this period of the Mesopotamian history.
Keywords: Ancient history, Mesopotamia, Kassite dynasty, cuneiform documents, ancient archives, cylindrical seals.
