The theoretical issues of sports event research are analysed in the paper in terms of
sociology of management: the author clarifies the main terms, systematises the
problematic areas of possible studies, presents a variant of sport events typology, and
proposes a research structure. The theoretical generalisations were based on empirical
research results, in particular carried out by the author within the framework of global
international events in Russia in the recent years.
