The article deals with the problem of intertextual inclusions in terms of their evaluative
function in the modern mass media genre “literary-critical column”. The study was
conducted using the material of the literary column written by the German critic Marcel
Reich-Ranicki in one of the leading newspapers. It is discovered that intertextual inclusions are often used to estimate the characters of a literary work or the writer’s creative style. The author concludes that the most common means of intertextuality in a literary column are allusions and reminiscences. Literary characters, historical personalities, and musical pieces can be used as a source of precedent phenomena. With the help of intertextual inclusions the author gives a certain emotional tone to the evaluation of the object based on the reader’s associations.
