The paper analyses some aspects connected with the creation of different versions of the Holy Writ. It is noted that quite often the investigator must understand if it is a Bible translation as such (i. e. an independent cross-lingual transfer of the Holy Writ), or it is a text already existing in the target language and more or less processed. This question arises especially in reference to the versions that played an important historical and cultural role (e. g. King James Bible or Douay-Rheims Bible in English-speaking areas, Synodal Translation in Russia, etc.). This proves the urgency of studying the problem under discussion.
