The reformation of higher music education carried out in the 1920s in the Leningrad Conservatory by the group of young educators under the leadership of Boris Asafyev gave life to the melodics course, a new discipline that had never existed before. It was developed in 1926 by the composer Pyotr Ryazanov (1899–1942) who had just started his pedagogical way at that moment, but very soon showed himself as an outstanding educator. The melodics course played an important role in the making of his composition school. Unfortunately, the course was not preserved in its complete form. The personal archive of the musician contains just a programme and separate materials of the course. This article presents one of those materials revealing the methodical basis of the melodics course.
Key words: Pyotr Ryazanov, musical composition education, reform, melodics course,
methodical note, “contemporarity”.
