The author of the article reconstructs the image of one of the Ural vocal school founders,
the outstanding opera artist and teacher Jan Vutiras. The author studies vocal and
pedagogic principles of the Sverdlovsk conservatoire professor, provides an authentic
view on the teaching methodology of solo singing, and examines common problems of
education and music development of future opera singers. The author’s recollections
about his teacher considerably supplement our understanding of the artistic work of the
People’s Artist of the RSFSR Jan Vutiras, who sang on the same stage with the world’s
best singers, the pride of the Russian vocal school Boris Shtokolov and Irina Arkhipova.
