The article deals with author’s lexical coinages which are treated as a means of revealing linguistic game. The author considers linguistic game to be a holistic notion that enables her to analyse different aspects of individual word coinages: reasons that spur the author of an art fairy tale to coin new lexical units representing believable and unbelievable mental units in the text or basic characteristics of new coinages such as individual attachment, contextual semantic dependence, reproducibility or their role in the play world of a fi ctional universe. Special attention is paid to semantic changes that traditional linguistic units of different levels undergo when they are employed in creating new nominations.
