The problem of recept ion of Cicero’s socio-political ideology and vocabula ry in the text of Res Gesta e Divi Augusti

D. A. Fedorov
Price: 50 руб.
The article deals with the reception of social and political ideas and vocabulary of Cicero during the formation of the early Principate. The author considers the main approaches to the issue of the so-called “borrowing” of some terms and expressions in the text of Cicero’s epigraphic monument Res Gestae Divi Augusti aiming at legitimation and ideological justification of the Principate. According to the author, this source demonstrates a kind of “ideological emasculation” of Cicero’s thought, gravitating towards democracy and idealisation of the republican traditions.
Key words: Cicero, ideology, Res Gestae Divi Augusti, Principate.
