The val ue of personal ity in the revolutionary Na rodnik ideology

I. L. Kislitsyna
Price: 50 руб.
Propositions about the replacement of personality’s value by the priority of society in
the worldview of the Russian democratic movement after the abolition of serfdom are
wide-spread in contemporary science. Based on the research of the main evolution line of the revolutionary-democratic (Narodnik) ideology in Russia in the mid-19th – early 20th centuries, the author of the paper ascertains that the highest value of personality was the chief idea of the Russian Narodnik movement, which defined its purpose. The conclusions of this investigation refute the point of view about the priority of society’s value against personality’s value in the Narodniks’ ideology and about their cult of working people. The novelty and importance of the Narodnik worldview in the world history of social thought consist in the idea of the unity of personal freedom and freedom of society.
Key words: Russian intellectuals, revolutionary-democratic movement in Russia,
Narodnik ideology, person, society.
