The paper is devoted to the general characteristics of postmodern concepts in the study of power and law. The author analyses characteristics of power and law in the postmodern era and highlights the influence of Michel Foucault’s works on postmodern ideas about law and power. In the era of postmodernism it is impossible to create a system of universal and immutable rules, which have timeless value and which are applicable to an infinitely possible number of specific cases. It is therefore important to identify all forms of law existing in society, to diagnose its problems and to identify possible ways of overcoming man’s compulsion on the part of social structures. With the help of postmodern theories, law can be studied in the context taking into account its historical and cultural specificity.
