The article describes the ways of expressing the meaning of condition (as a part of the
conditionality paradigm) in argumentative texts of Russian and English-language fition.
It is shown that the meaning of condition, characterised by its hypothetical nature, can
be expressed by explicit and implicit means with the obligatory manifestation of its
essential feature. Moreover, the meaning of condition is often diffiult to distinguish
from other meanings (cause, in particular) in cases of its implicit expressing.
