The article explores food motif as one of the major aspects in the trilogy of novels by I. A. Goncharov (“A Common Story”, “Oblomov”, “The Precipice”). Most often, it is the food that marks the mood, relationship and worldview of practically all Goncharov’s characters. Therefore, a connection between the celebratory descriptions of partaking a meal with the Russian mentality and patriarchal foundation of the Russian family
in Goncharov’s works is beyond any doubt.
