The author studies the establishment of city public banks in the Siberian region, highlights certain specifi cs of their operation and interaction with the local self-governance bodies, reviews their financial support for the city infrastructure
and charitable activities. This knowledge calls for the past successful experience in the establishment to be re-applied in the practice of current day municipal banks.
