Abstract. The article examines the historical and philosophical aspect of the formation of
the philosophy of technology as an independent discipline. The author attempts to revisit
certain works by Nicolaus Cusanus, Francis Bacon and Johann Fichte in the context of their importance for the history of philosophy of technology. The article also tackles the modern discussion among English and American philosophers regarding “The Question Concerning Technology” by Martin Heidegger. Using this example, the article actualises the differences between American and continental approaches to the philosophy of technology. In conclusion, the article argues that there are insufficient grounds to consider that “The Question Concerning Technology” condemns technology.
