The paper covers the history of the creation of Estro poeticoarmonico, one of the most famous works by the Venetian composer of the 18th century Benedetto Marcello. The paper reveals regularities of referring to the texts of the Psalter as the basis for a
musical composition that goes beyond the framework of the liturgical service. The author considers features of the collection structure, determines the intonational origins of the musical language.
Keywords: Benedetto Marcello, Psalter, Psalms of David, liturgical music.
