The paper highlights the main ideas of S. I. Mamontov and his infl uence on the development of Russian art. In his work the author noted the creative abilities of the patron in many areas. S. I. Mamontov possessed an extremely rare ability to discover someone else’s talent long before this talented creator was recognized by society. It was the selfl ess work of S. I. Mamontov that helped put together an excellent collection of contemporary Russian art. Along with all the advantages, it was S. I. Mamontov 

who proclaimed a new tradition in Russian theatrical art, where the creation of a vivid and holistic image in a performance combined text, music and scenery. Thanks to the patronage of S. I. Mamontov, the artistic possibilities of the talented representatives of the Russian vocal school were revealed. S. I. Mamontov supported domestic performers contributing to their powerful professional merits and bringing the artistic creations of 

talented compatriots to a new highest level of skill.
