This paper examines examples of reflection of contemporary Chinese artists on modernity, analyzes the process of searching for the identity of modern Chinese society, refl ected in the works of prominent Chinese artists. The analysis of paintings by Wang
Guangyi, Fang Lijun, and Yue Minjun reveals the nation’s aspiration for constant transformation, movement forward, which permeates the daily life of the Chinese. In their works, contemporary Chinese artists claim the emergence of a new China, which is not
limited by the perception of the past.
