The 1950s and 1960s were the period of Soviet aid to China, as well as the period of active development of sculpture after the PRC had been founded. Under the infl uence of the Soviet art during this period, social realism gradually became the main direction of
Chinese sculpture and infl uenced it until now. The greatest influence from Russia was exerted by three Soviet sculptors (N. N. Klindukhov, M. A. Kerzin and M. K. Anikushin), who had made great infl uence on education in the fi eld of sculpture in the PRC. They
trained a group of eminent sculptors for the PRC and were honored as “three masters” in the fi eld of sculpture. This article will focus on the infl uence of these three Russian sculptors on the development of Chinese sculpture of social realism.
