The paper is devoted to a brief analysis of several engravings of the
15th and 17th centuries depicting the Virgin Mary. The paper traces
the links between the print and its real sculptural or pictorial prototype.
The theme of pilgrimages in the 17th century is inextricably linked with
this subject. The main purpose of the paper is to identify the connection
between religious propaganda and development of the production of
printed images, the “paper icon” and the baroque leafl et. This allows us
to highlight the tendencies common for the baroque art to create tangible
images in a mass-produced way.
Keywords: baroque, propaganda, leafl et, sculpture, pilgrimage.
