The  article  reveals  current  trends  in  the  development  of  distance  learning  within
the  national  systems  of  higher  art  education  in  three  countries:  Spain,  the  USA  and Turkey. The study also considers the question of whether distance learning is supposed to  eliminate  cultural  barriers  in  order  to  ensure  its  effectiveness  as  a  mechanism  for internationalisation  of  the  educational  process.  Given  examples  illustrate  the  aspects and results of successful integration of distance technologies into visual arts education. In general, a growing interest of world science in the resources of distance education and the search for optimal ways to integrate modern distance learning technologies into the traditional pedagogical model can be considered as a universal trend in the current development of arts pedagogy.
Key words: distance education, online education, art education, art.
