The article is dedicated to the organisation of a course in translation for students of secondary vocational institutes. The author describes the studying conditions emphasising the fact that in these conditions we need to mold only basic translation skills. A new model of the translation course is suggested in this article, it can also be used at universities. The paper also provides translation exercises for the Russian – English linguistic pair, all the exercises were used in real teaching practice.
