nifi cant English composers of the XVIII century — Thomas Augustine
Arne (1710–1778). The information about the little-known composer
who made a huge contribution to the development of English musi-
cal theater is based on a few sources and precedes the fi rst modern
publication of the anonymous obituary in 1784, published in The
Gentleman’s and London Magazine. The Russian translation is done
by the author of the article.
Keywords: Thomas Augustine Arne, XVIII century, English music, British press.
