The paper is devoted to general issues of periodization of the
modern Chinese piano education. It deals with the evolution of
university piano training in the process of the rapidly changing
Chinese pianist society in the “period of reform and opening up”.
The author proposes his own version of periodization, believing
that the mid-2000s marked a new period in the evolution of the
“Chinese piano”, associated with the transition from an extensive
to an intensive type of the piano culture.
Keywords: piano culture, Chinese pianism, periodization, qualitative transformation,
higher specialized education.
