Cinema is one of the most popular art carriers of the epoch. In the
course of development of such a genre as movie music, songs from
movies caught on and gained popularity with the audience. The paper
considers the “Velvet Flower” song, the beauty and artistic content of
which are revealed via vocal interpretations; it also presents a compara-
tive analysis of different song interpretations. Relying on the composer’s
idea, every singer adds his own unique shades and hints, caused by his
own perception, cultural background, manner of singing etc. This is a
variety of interpretations that help a song live and become part of the
cultural space.
Keywords: problem of interpretation, vocal art in cinema, vocal music, Chinese movies
