The goal of this paper is to analyze the features of realizштп the
beginning and the end of the plot exemplifi ed by expressive means
of space and time in the story by James Joyce «Eveline». In the
«Eveline», the time and space of the character and the narrator may
coincide or may be different. In this regard, the linear fl ow of time,
typical for the traditional narrative, is disrupted. The text imple-
ments the contrast between the spatial and temporal subsystems of
«eternity-sea-abyss» and «heroine’s world», and the pathway (from
beginning to end) of the heroine is never completed.
