Sonata of the 20Th Century in the Focus of Transformations of the Genre System

The article is devoted to the issue of transformations of the genre system in 
the 20th century music and its projection on the sonata genre. One of the 
main stimuli for the changes is the integration process, which characterizes 
the development mechanisms of modern culture. Three vectors of interaction 
and, accordingly, modifi cations of the genre system and its components have 
been constructed: vertical, horizontal and vertical-horizontal. Each of them is 
considered in detail. The fi rst one concentrates on active assimilation of think-
ing norms, form creating patterns, and compositional methods that are not 
typical of the basic genre, while the main, attributive features of the original 
model are maintained. The horizontal vector represents the intensive interac-
tion of different genres, leading to the emergence of numerous genre mixes, 
which do not go beyond the limits of musical art , though. The third way of 
transformation is modeled as synthesis of music and related art spheres, such 
as poetry, literature, visual arts, theater, as well as the use of new information .Рand computer and media technologies, and unorthodox sources of sound.
