The paper analyzes the issues of interpreting pieces of music in terms of hermeneutics. The purpose of the research is to determine factors that affect interpretation of the music in choral singing. The author considers the concept of musical consciousness as an essential component in the musician’s personality, choral conductor’s personality. The paper outlines stages of initiating interpretation in choral singing, and exemplifi es the methods of interpreting the studied material through hermeneutical principles with the analysis of G. Sviridov’s cantata “Songs of Kursk”.
