The paper is aimed to reveal the dialectical interrelation of pleasure and suffering on the
basis of Plato’s dialogues. Answering the question if pure pleasure is possible, the author
of the paper goes beyond Plato’s conception to the works of Aristotle and Spinoza.
The focal point of discussion in the article is of vital importance, since the way of
interpretation of the pleasure phenomenon determines the choice of values and lifestyle.
