 The article examines the specific place of the concept of mind in contemporary cognitive
science using E. V. Ilyenkov’s discrimination between ideal and material substances
in order to analyse this concept beyond regular discussions in the philosophy of mind.
The results of the study show inconsistencies in the theoretical framework of cognitive
science caused by the content of the concept of information and limitations caused by the meaning of ideal substance in this framework.
